Dear GMYS Parents,Well, we've moved to Zoom again and we're a little smarter this time around!  Public speaking and online speaking are both incredibly important skills, but they are also very different.  As we move online, we are changing our focus somewhat to reflect that.Although speakers use many of the same techniques for both, we want to key in on the skills that will give our students success in the future with online meetings, interviews, and projects.  The primary skills we're looking at right now are:1. Impressions of Kids Public Speaking Program, Meeting Format, Games, 001

In this first episode, the group facilitator Sharon introduces parent Kathy who reveals how the public speaking program has benefited her girls age 10 and 14. Sharon explains the logistics and set up of a typical meeting and how they use short prepared speeches, games, impromptu speaking, and feedback to guide the children. They talk about a creative and very unique activity to encourage better eye contact. Sharon also explains the different roles the kids take on in a meeting and how the group is focused on a stress-free environment by having only participants in the hour-long bi-weekly meetings.
